Wake up to a spectacular Galveston beachfront view of the Gulf of Mexico. The Commodore on the Beach is in the heart of Galveston Island's ambience, right on the waterfront at 37th and Seawall Boulevard.
Sip coffee on your own private balcony overlooking Galveston Island's famous Seawall. Take a dip in the sparkling pool. Stroll the beach for a shell or two. Bike through Galveston's historic neighborhoods nearby.
The Commodore on the Beach is in the heart of Galveston Island's ambience, right on the waterfront at 37th and Seawall Boulevard. That beachfront corner is the Island's midsection – to the east are Stewart Beach and Galveston's restored architectural treasures and museums; an equal distance to the west are the world-class attractions of Moody Gardens. The Strand Historical District and the Postoffice Street art galleries are even closer. It's as if the Commodore's builders said, "OK, here are all the fun things to do on Galveston Island, now where can we put a hotel to be closest to all of it?"
Of course, they couldn't have known about the food. Today, The Commodore on the Beach finds itself surrounded by the great restaurants that make Galveston so delicious. Gaido's, Casey's, Joe's Crab Shack, The Rainforest Café, Landry's and Salsa's Seaside Cantina are within walking distance, and more are on the way.
And now, in addition to the traditional Galveston beachfront hotel, the Commodore offers the option of renting a guest house. Commodore HomeStyle is a unique collection of cottages located conveniently throughout the Island, where you experience Galveston as the natives do. You can choose a property near Stewart Beach and the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, or choose one closer to the hotel. All are convenient walking distance to the beach.
Vacationers who choose The Commodore know from the moment of check-in that we want them to have fond memories of their visit to Galveston. The staff is happy to share our local knowledge - from the best bike rental deal to the historic homes that are must-sees.

| Rating | Rated by | Date | Review | | Harry from Nova Scotia | 12/15/2008 11:33:00 AM | My wife & I have stayed there 3 days each April for the past 4 years. As others have said, it is a bit dated, but the value is excellant, close to everything. Also, the front desk staff are fabulous.
Say " Hi " to Dolores. Great lady. | | Melissa | 9/28/2008 9:16:00 PM | One year they rescued us from the Sandpiper and we have stayed there every time. Love the all non-smoking. Have never had a problem.
Love them and will come down again soon. | | Melissa | 8/18/2008 1:17:00 PM | we stayed at the commadore and I would not recommend it at all we were very disappointed. For the money we paid was not worth it. | | Donald | 8/2/2008 6:07:00 PM | We stayed there for two nights. The room was ok, they offered breakfast in the lobby, the pool was nice, and the view was lovely. The only down fall I had was the policy about smoking on the property. I for one respect non smokers. I respect the fact that we can't smoke in the room, but the policy of the property was a little much. It was mentioned on the website about the rooms being smoke free, but not the other. For the money and the location it was good. Will I recommend it to anyone? Not unless they are non smokers, if you are it is perfect. We could have rented somewhere else, and enjoyed ourself a little better had we have known. We came for relaxing time, cooler, smokes and chair time. But maybe next year. | | Billyhr2 from Arlington | 7/27/2008 12:29:00 PM | We were camping but as a result of the great wind adventure known as Hurricane Dolly, we stayed at The Commodore on the Seawall Hotel. The place was made back in the 1960s, but retains it's charm. The normal price was 115 dollars a night. For the price of 115, I highly recommend it.
You won't get any other hotel on beach front that cheap. Free Continental Breakfast. Free cookies and milk at night. Excellant view of the gulf(with chairs on our balcony to sit and watch the waves).
| | Steve | 7/19/2008 9:28:00 AM | If status and/or room service matters than this is not the place for you. But if you want a great view of the gulf, easy access to the beach, a nice-sized pool, nearby restaurants and reasonable value; then it's a perfect place to stay. The rooms are a bit smallish and outdated but if you're on the go like we were, it's not a big issue. | | Gena | 7/9/2008 1:55:00 PM | We have stayed here for the last 4-5 visits to Galveston, which we try to make every summer. I agree it does need updating but all is worth being right on the beach with a balcony. | | Brandy | 6/22/2008 9:45:00 AM | This hotel needs updating. We reserved a room for two nights and only stayed one. We reserved a king bed with a view of the gulf. What we got was a room with 2 queen beds, which made the room tiny. The lady at the front told us that we had a prime view of the gulf....we had a prime view of the pool with tons of people and a side view of the gulf and the street!! The balcony was scary....it was so small it could barely fit 2 chairs. Needless to say we were out of there in the morning and won't be going back! | | Tonja | 6/3/2008 2:12:00 PM | We just stayed at this hotel last week. The rooms on the ground floor were nice & smelled fresh every day. All the staff (front desk & cleaning)were friendly. The pool was nice & clean & the area around it was clean. The only thing I wish our room would of had was a refrigerator & a microwave. We would go back there again for sure. | | Richard | 6/2/2008 6:35:00 PM | The Commodore exceeded my expectations for the very reasonable price. I found the staff helpful and friendly, and the room clean and cool. The location is perfect! I highly recommend this property! | | Heather | 5/29/2008 7:08:00 PM | We just returned from Galveston and stayed at the Commodore. We stayed in the 4th floor family room. It was perfect for us. The price was very reasonable. The room was clean with a lot of space for the kids to unwind. We had plenty of towels, the air conditioner was cold and the shower was hot! The pool was very nice and well-kept. The housekeeping staff as well as the front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonable place to stay on the beach! | | TOMMY | 5/14/2008 12:55:00 PM | After reading the reviews I had to see for myself. Yes, it needs updating, but they were working on it while we were there. The staff was just as friendly as they said and the view was just as fabulous. The room was absolutely fine, it had all we needed and was clean. As long as they keep working on it I would highly recommend this hotel for the view and the hospitality. | | Dean Verhaeghe | 4/4/2008 9:32:00 AM | The only reason I am giving this a star is that the pool was clean and the hotel was truly across from the beach. My room was damp, the bedding was torn, the air conditioner kept rattling, and the stopper for the bathtub was pulled out and the whole mechanism was laying on the edge of the tub. When I told the front desk this, so I was not charged for it, they told me it was ok, no problem. My family and I felt like we were staying in someones basement. To make matters worse we were woken up three times by some guy begging for gas money. | | Shawn K. | 3/11/2008 1:38:00 PM | I have stayed at the Commodore several times over the years and have always enjoyed it. Great view and location. | | shari g. | 2/25/2008 9:48:00 AM | location is great and is truly beach front with a view hotel.
Not the newest/trendiest, but a great place to stay. I'll be back.
I really like it there. |
